Clara Smith Pennartz 1/17/1948 – 8/06/2025 Clara Smith Pennartz, 77, of Ragley, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at her home. Her funeral service will be Saturday, August 9, at 1:00PM, with a time of visitation from 10:00AM until time of service, at Magnolia Baptist Church in Ragley. Interment will be at Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. David Free will officiate. Clara passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 in the arms of her husband, Mel, at their residence. She was born at home in Swords, LA on January 17, 1948 and lived in Ragley the last 45 years. She married Melvin Pennartz on October 22, 1972. She retired after 15 years as a South Beauregard school bus driver with many fond memories of the children. She loved sewing, gardening, baking, flowers, raising cattle and other farm animals. Her flower gardens were enjoyed by many of her close-knit community. She is survived by her husband Mel; stepson Todd Pennartz and wife, Ali of Breckenridge, TX; step daughters, Suzanne Hansen and husband, Dean, of Allen, TX and Kerstie and husband, Paul Breeze of Van Buren, Arkansas; sister Barbara Smith Fontenot of Swords; brother Donald Smith and wife Clara of Erath, LA plus many extended family members. She is preceded in death by her parents, Newton Smith and Annie Mae Babineaux, brothers Ned and John Smith, and one stepson Glenn Pennartz.
