Larry "Papa" Whittington, 80, of Longville, passed away Friday, October 25, 2019 at his home.
His visitation will be Monday, October 28, from 5-9pm and Tuesday, October 29, from 9am
until time of service at Memorial Baptist Church in Longville. His funeral service will be
Tuesday, October 29, at 2pm at Memorial Baptist Church. Interment will be at Memorial
Cemetery. Rev. Jimmy Clark will officiate.
Larry was born on July 30th, 1939 in Pineville, LA, to the union of Memphis Benjamin
Whittington and Grace Elizabeth Meyers. He attended school at Longville and was a graduate
of the class of 1957. He married Kay Legg in December of that same year. They were married
for 40 years, until her death in 1995. They had five children: Shelia, Pam, Janine, Beth, and
Bud. Later in 1995, he married Carolyn Taylor, with whom he recently celebrated their 24th
wedding anniversary. Larry and Carolyn made their home in Longville. Larry was a truck
driver by trade. He hauled freight in Colorado, livestock in California, pipe for the Alaskan
Pipeline, and gravel and logs in Louisiana. At an early age, Larry made a profession of faith.
He was a founding and consistent member of Memorial Baptist Church in Longville.
Larry is survived by his wife, Carolyn Whittington; four children, Pam Whittington Gaspard,
Janine Whittington Love, Beth Whittington Montgomery, and Marlin "Bud" Whittington; ten
grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; and a host of nieces,
nephews, family and friends survive Larry.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Memphis Benjamin and Grace Elizabeth Whittington;
daughter Shelia Whittington Steel; two granddaughters, September Michelle Clark and Ericka
Scott Reyes; one great-granddaughter MaCayla Whittington; first wife, Kay Whittington;
brother Harold Whittington; and sister Helen Whittington Corsey.
