Margaret Ann Bass

Margaret Ann Bass, 79, of Moss Bluff, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023 at her home surrounded by her
loved ones. Her visitation will be Monday, April 17, from 9am until time of service at Heritage Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2pm at Heritage. Interment will be at New Ritchie Cemetery. Rev. Charlie
Bailey will officiate.
Margaret Ann was born in Opelika, Alabama on December 3, 1943 to Loyd and Cornelia Williamson while her
dad was in the Army. She lived in many places growing up, including Minden, DeRidder, Leesville, Lake
Charles, Rosepine, Plain Dealing, and then in DeKalb, Texas where she graduated from Dekalb High School.
Her family moved to Lake Charles again in 1961. In 1963 she met John Bass, and they married the next year on
February 22, 1964.
Margaret was a member of the Minden, La Chapter U.D.C. Margaret was a Southern History buff. She and a
friend published a book about confederate veterans buried in Calcasieu Parish called "Lost and Found". She
also published a book on Louisiana news during the Civil War, and did work on other parishes. Margaret traced
some of her family back to the Mayflower. She also worked at Greyhound bus station in the early 60's, and later
worked at JC Penney in the 80's.
Margaret was a devoted wife, sister and mother, spending time as a room mother, chaperone on LaGrange Band
and Speech Team trips. She was also a dedicated Sunday School teacher at Landmark Baptist Church.
Margaret Ann is survived by her husband, John; son Tim & Marie Bass of Coon Rapids, MN; daughter Deborah
& Matt O'Brien of Houston; two brothers, Loyd G. & Ok Gin Williamson of Washington, and Noel W. &
Michelle Williamson of Lake Charles; niece Dacia Briley & Charlie of Lake Charles, and their children, Drew,
Levi, Elizabeth, Liam and Judah; nephew James P. Williamson & Erica of Lake Charles, and their children,
James Paul II, Emma, and Aubrey; and one special grandson (who adopted us at his mother Marie's wedding)
Nick Dunn & Alaina, and their two sons, Jack and Finn, of Minnesota.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Loyd & Cornelia (Mr. and Mrs. Cotton) Williamson, all grandparents,
and two brothers, Jimmie and Paul.
The ones carrying her to her final resting place will be Mike Johnston, Kevin Johnston, Keith Johnston, Drew
Briley, Levi Briley, William Briley, and one very special Judah Briley, her gardening partner.
