Marilyn Smith Plunkett

Marilyn Smith Plunkett, 92, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles,
Louisiana.
Marilyn Plunkett was born in Mexico, Missouri on February 11, 1931 and married to Herbert Connely Plunkett
of the same town on June 28, 1952. They moved to Jackson, Mississippi in 1954 and together raised their five
children.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Pamela Farr (Milton) of Bolton, MS, Clayton C. Plunkett
(Angie) of Clinton, MS, Sandra Casey (Jessie) of Lake Charles, LA, H. Daniel Plunkett (Cheryl) of
Ponchatoula, LA. Ms. Plunkett is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. She is
preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Byron Smith and Madge Esther Branstetter Smith, her brother J Conrad
Smith, and her daughter, Marilyn Kathleen Mangialardi.
Ms. Plunkett attended and studied art at Gulf Park College in Long Beach, MS, Southern Methodist University
in Dallas, TX, University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI, and University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. She
volunteered her artistic talents in Jackson, MS by painting scenery for The Children's Theater, decorating for
Symphony Balls, Mississippi Arts Festival Coffee Houses, and arts in the park for children in summertime.
She further became a buyer and manager for ladies clothing for Owens, Ltd., and a buyer for Frances Pepper,
Inc. in Jackson, MS. Ms. Plunkett also volunteered for all hospitals in Jackson and zeroed in on Mississippi
Baptist Hospital as a volunteer and then became an employee.
Ms. Plunkett was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson, MS. She loved her God and family
above all else in life.

The family will have a Celebration of Life service to be announced in the near future.
